<B><I>A</B></I></B></I><I> </B></I><B><I>Young Boy Shooting a Marble</B></I></B></I><B><BR></B></I><BR>Enrico Astorri (1858-1919), Italian<BR>19th Century<BR>Marble<BR>Signed on back of base: <I>Enrico Astorri <BR></B></I>26 inches high, 25 inches wide, 26 inches deep<BR><BR> This large, delightful marble by Astorri depicts a happy, barefooted boy with a pack on his back, crouching down to shoot a marble.<BR><BR>The sculptor Enrico Astorri was born in S. Lazzarro Alberoni. In 1884, he was active in Turin and produced a work in marble entitled <I>La Serenta </B></I>which was much admired. During the same period he sculpted a portrait bust of King Umberto I. In 1886, Astorri produced an ambitious bronze genre group entitled <I>Company of Unfortunates</B></I> and the following year was active in Venice sculpting mythological and genre subjects in marble. In 1888, he was in Bologna where he began concentrating on busts of romantic characters and ethnic types, usually of women. His marble bust of a slave with exhibited at the 1889 Munich Exposition, and in 1900 his full-length <I>Arabian Spinner</B></I> was exhibited at the Paris Salon.<BR><BR><b>Shipping:</b> Requires 3rd Party Shipping (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.heritageauctions.com/common/shipping.php">view shipping information</a>)
