A Wigwam Broadside of the Republican Platform
A Broadside Detailing the National Republican Platform in the 1860 Campaign, as Adopted by the Convention at the Wigwam! Measuring 8" x 13" with Miss Liberty at the top, it lists all the planks agreed upon by those attending the National Republican Convention in Chicago, May 17, 1860. Two columns list seventeen declarations, including one on the African Slave Trade and one on the Admission of Kansas as a "Free State." The printing citation at the bottom reads: "For sale at the Press and Tribune Office, Chicago-Price, 60 cents per 100." The Wigwam was a temporary two-story wooden auditorium erected with Party support to host the convention in Chicago. It was here that Lincoln was nominated for the presidency. Torn down in 1871 with warehoused artifacts and papers lost in the Great Chicago Fire, very little remains from this pivotal conclave. Some typical age staining and weakness at folds with minor loss at a few points does not detract from the list of declarations nor obscure anything. Could be professionally cleaned and conserved to enhance presentation. Certainly a "Holy Grail" relic… one of only three examples known to remain extant.

Shipping: Flat Material, Large (view shipping information)
