A. Warhol: Signed Campbells Soup Drawing in Book
Andy Warhol: Signed Campbell's Soup Can Drawing on Half-Title Page of The Philosophy of Andy Warhol: From A To B & Back Again First Edition. (New York and London: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1975), first edition, 241 pages, yellow paper boards shelf-backed in yellow cloth with black and white lettering on the spine, 8vo (5.5" x 8.5"), dust jacket (in protective Mylar), housed in a black quarter leather slipcase with marbled boards and gilt titles on the spine. Warhol has drawn a Campbell's Soup can around the titles on the half title page, inscribed the drawing "to cute Michael Wayne" and signed "With love Andy Warhol". Michael Wayne is the son of western movie star John Wayne. The soup can in the drawing is titled simply "Campbell Soups". Campbell's Soup Cans was a series of 32 individual paintings by Warhol originally exhibited to the public in 1962, igniting a controversy over the definition and limits of art that made Warhol forever famous. Warhol's drawings of Campbell's Soup cans are among his most prized collectibles, even later improvisatory efforts such as the one in this book. The drawing shows some wrinkling at the top right, but is otherwise unblemished. The book is about very good, with noticeably bumped corners at the bottom edge and moderate chipping of the dust jacket in a few places. This is a rare opportunity to obtain a Warhol Campbell's Soup drawing in any form.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
