A WORKSPLATE “Hudswell Clarke & Co Ltd Leeds No. 1786-1945”. As carried by the ‘Austerity’ 0-6-0ST with inside cylinders, 71468, which was delivered new to Longmoor from storage in October 1945. It went to the LNER in June 1946, becoming LNER 8061 Class J94 in July 1946; BR 68061 in June 1949. Designed by Riddles, these robust engines were used for heavy shunting and freight work, a handful became famous for their exploits on the Cromford and High Peak lines. 68061 was latterly shedded at York then West Hartlepool and was withdrawn in December 1963 to be cut up at Darlington in February 1964. Oval cast-iron. 11¼”x8”; face-repainted only. Supplied with a polished wood mount. A rare Hunslet pattern plate. Note Only 10 of these cast-iron plates were dated 1945 (15 in 1943; 26 in 1944).
