A WORKSPLATE “Great Northern Railway Co. Makers No. 1408. 1913 Doncaster”. As carried by the GNR J22 class 0-6-0, GNR 573, that emerged from Works in October 1913. Designed by Gresley, these locomotives were employed on local passenger, freight, station pilot and shunting duties. 573 became LNER 3573 Class J6 from October 1924; 4222 from December 1946, and BR 64222 from May 1948. Latterly shedded at Ardsley, it was withdrawn in November 1960 and cut up at Doncaster immediately. Oval engraved brass, 12¼”x7¼”, face-polished only. The back is clearly stamped “573”; “3573” and “4222”. A very fine example, supplied with a polished wood plaque.
