A WORKSPLATE “Built 1952 Brighton”. As carried by the British Railways Standard Class 4 2-6-4T 80053 that emerged from Works on 22nd December 1952 under Brighton Order BR 3621.These handsome and powerful locomotives were used on mainly passenger and semi-fast trains, the most notable being from Fenchurch Street to Tilbury. 80053 was a Chester, then Glasgow Corkerhill engine, and was withdrawn on 7th July 1964 to be cut up by the Motherwell Machinery & Scrap Co. Wishaw in April 1965. Oval cast-iron, 10½”x6”, unrestored.
