A WORKS NUMBERPLATE "London & North Eastern Railway 5079 Darlington Works 1891". As carried by the ex NER Class C 0-6-0, NER 1555, built at Darlington in May 1891. Designed by Worsdell, and first introduced in 1886, these elderly 0-6-0's were employed on freight work. It was superheated in December 1915 and became LNER 1555 Class J21 in 1923. The superheating was removed in June 1934; it became LNER 5079 in June 1946; and it was withdrawn in November 1949. Oval cast brass, 9"x5", face-polished and repainted and mounted on a wooden display board with a descriptive brass plaque. A rare survivor.
