In Regency England, pedestal library tables became popular and attention was turned to the use of truly national timbers, such as pollarded oak or burr elm, for these and other types of furniture. Designers like John Loudon (1783-1843) and particularly Thomas King published drawings for similar library tables (Edward Joy, Pictorial Dictionary of British 19th Century Furniture Design. Woodbridge Suffolk, 1977, pp. 482-83)
