A.W. Ward, et al, Editors. The Cambridge Modern History, Planned by the Late Lord Acton. Cambridge: University Press, 1907.

Fifth edition. Fourteen octavo volumes including an Atlas, which contains approximately 140 colored maps.

Bound in dark blue buckram with gilt lettering on spine. Top edge of pages is gilded. Mild to moderate wear to boards and spines; spines exhibit moderate and consistent sunning. Textblocks are uniformly clean and sharp; hinges sound. At the turn of the century, Acton devoted himself to coordinating the Cambridge Modern History project, securing, directing and overseeing the work of contributors. Physically exhausted just two years into the project, he suffered a stroke and died shortly thereafter. This monumental work is the result of his early efforts and would make an excellent addition to any history collection.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
