Lippincott & Co., 1857), first edition, illustrated half-title, frontis plus 28 plates including the rare "Bathing Scene in Japan" (nude) and "Execution Yard. Canton" illustrations with tissue guards, 507 pages, brown cloth with blindstamped ship on front board, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, 8vo (6" x 9"). This book traces the journey of the United States Exploring Expedition to the North Pacific and China Seas between 1853 and 1856 and includes sections on the visits to Malay, the Loo-Choo Islands, the coasts of China and Formosa, Japan, Kamtschatka, Siberia, and the mouth of the Amoor River. Habersham was a lieutenant in the surveying party and served aboard the <I>John P Kennedy</B></I>.
