A VERY RARE ART NOUVEAU GLASS IN METAL BUTTON
1 Large 19th century figural button by Gabriel Stalin. Gabriel Stalin was a noted and fine artist of the Art Nouveau era and created many sought after designs for Piel Freres in France. Per the online Wikipedia, Gabriel Stalin was a sculptor and artistic director for Piel Frères, a French jewelry firm founded in 1855 by Alexandre Piel. He designed luxurious-looking, affordable Art Nouveau jewelry, particularly belt buckles, using materials like brass, copper, and celluloid. They won a Grand Prix at the 1900 Paris Exposition. This incredible and beautiful colorful iridescent molded glass Art Nouveau flowing figural women in glass is set in metal and the glass is signed on the front G. Stalin. The colors in the iridescence changes from pinks to greens to blues when you turn the button in various directions, absolutely gorgeous. This stunning example is actually a rarer button than the desired and sought after Nymph by Rene Lalique from the same time period. This button example may never show up again for sale so here is your opportunity to own this exquisite and stunning button. Please note there is a small minute chip at around 7 o'clock near the edge, this chip is barely seen by the naked eye, but photos seem to capture even the minutest thing. Upon closer examination we found that the iridescent lustre is in this minute flake so we believe this flaw was in the making. It does not at all detract from the rarity or beauty of this incredible example. We have attached a picture of a belt with this same design to show you other works like this button by Stalin. The buckles and belts he designed are not common either. This belt is in my personal collection and NOT for sale but referenced here for your enjoyment. It is also featured and has been featured for a couple of years on one of our pages in our history logs of Lion and Unicorn Auctions.
