Included with this pair of spurs is an assortment of papers collected by Richard Boykin, Sr., son of Alabama Congressman Frank W. Boykin, which state that these spurs were part of a collection of Jesse James artifacts assembled and displayed by Harry Hawes, United States Senator for Missouri, who reportedly had Jesse Edwards James, son of the notorious outlaw, certify the items as legitimate. This collection was acquired from Hawes by Congressman Boykin, who then used it to decorate his office in Washington, D.C. Following Boykin's death, the collection was split up, with the bulk of the items being donated to the Mobile Downtown Museum. A pair of James attributed revolvers were sold to private collectors and the spurs retained by Richard Boykin. Both spurs are of stamped steel construction, 3 1/4 inches wide and 4 5/8 inches long, with a pair of chain studs on each side near the front, riveted "D" shaped roundel supports on the back, and a 1 1/4 inch wide 10-spoke roundel.
