A TRANS-CAUCASIAN FLINTLOCK RIFLE, LATE 18TH C.
This is a late 18th-century Trans-Caucasian rifle-musket with a 23mm rifled bore. The lockplate is by D. Moore, a British gunsmith active from at least 1758 until circa 1800, and has been engraved with his name. The top of the barrel is inscribed with a phrase that ends with 'Garde Corps' but as of yet we cannot understand the first few words in the sentence. The buttstock and the part of the stock around the breech have both been decorated with painted bone inlay. The grip of the stock is carved with large diamond shapes which have been checkered for improved grip.

L: 56.5 in. (143.51 cm.);

The barrel is patinated throughout but is in its original condition. The action is good. The stock has several cracks and part of the bone inlay is missing. The ramrod is original.
