<B>A Square Pietre Dure Table Top</B></I><BR><BR>Unknown maker, India<BR>Twentieth Century<BR>Marble and semi-precious stone<BR>Unmarked<BR>58.5 in wide x 58.5 in. long; with base 33.5 in. high<BR><BR>Based on a design by Giovanni Battista Foggini, the black marble top inlaid with central undulating scrolled lapis lazuli ribbon within a garland of naturalistic flowers rendered in contrasting marble and semi-precious stones. Four shells reveal black pearls amid scrolling foliate corners culminating in paired stylized dolphins trailing foliage and supporting circular medallions containing three fleur de lis motifs; bound by a rectangular frame of foliate scrolls bound by filets, within a frieze of serpentine foliate scrollwork with egg and dart frame and white fillet.
