A South African Railways brass single-language CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE "1757.14R". As carried by the SAR 3'6" gauge 14R Class 4-8-2 built by Beyer-Peacock as Works No. 5888 in 1915. Originally built to sub-class 14B and unsuperheated, this was quickly rectified. Together with other Class 14 variants, it was rebuilt to Class 14R with a standard boiler in the 1930's. Originally mixed traffic for Natal, these engines were scrapped or sold to industrial lines, this one going to Grootvlei Proprietary Mines in its last years, and was out of use in the late 1980's. Lightly face-polished and repainted, and presented on a polished wood display plaque.
