(Sears, Roebuck & Co., 1932-33) A Silvertone lowboy style super-heterodyne 8-tube battery radio, model 1575. The pinnacle of home entertainment at the time, this radio originally carried the hefty price tag of $60, or $1350 in today’s money. With both long and short wave reception, the entire family could gather in the living room for shows broadcast from fledgling national networks such as NBC and CBS, or listen in on local police calls. The battery-powered radio retains its original amplifier with a newer smaller one installed with a 0.25” TS audio jack, allowing the radio to function as a decorative speaker. The new amplifier is in need of a new plug and has not been tested. The body is crafted with a walnut finish, walnut veneer front panel, and Tamo wood overlays across top and bottom rail. The radio needs servicing to function. Measuring 25.25” x 14” x 40.5” tall, the radio displays in good condition with scratches, chips to the finish, and a tear to the grill cloth. Due to size and weight, special shipping arrangements are required. Please inquire before bidding.
