From the Shipibo Tribe of eastern Peru, at the headwaters of the Amazon, ca 1950. Imagine traveling down the beautiful and exotic, yet dangerous Amazon river only to happen upon an unknown village with people making pottery like this. Is it geometric? What do the lines mean? Who is depicted on this bowl, with his face raised in low relief? Why did they take the time to form the ears and the nose? You can't understand the villager's words as they present you with one of these bowls, but you certainly understand the beauty. 6" x 6", some wear to the glaze, else intact/choice.
