<B>The Queen's Beast: A Series of Ten Bone China Figural Ornaments </B></I><BR><I>By Minton China Works, Stoke on Trent, 1955</B></I><BR><BR>Each symbolizing the ancient chivalrous ancestry of the British crown, made from the original model of the Queen's vase designed in 1954 by Mr. James Woodford to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on June 2nd 1953, the production of these individual figures issued in 1955 was limited to six months:<BR> <B><BR>The White Lion of Mortimer</B></I>, in silver holding blue and mulberry red shield of livery of the House of York<BR><BR><B>The Lions of England</B></I>, gold wearing a royal crown and bearing shield showing Royal crown of the U.K.<BR><BR><B>The Unicorn of Scotland</B></I>, white with hoofs, horn mane, and tufts in gold, shield bears Royal Arms of Former Scottish Kings<BR><BR><B>The White Horse of Hanover</B></I> white, bears shield of Royal Arms of the U.K. <BR><BR><B>The White Greyhound of Richmond</B></I>, red collar with shield of Tudor livery in white and green<BR><BR><B>The Red Dragon of Wales</B></I>, red with yellow underside, shield associated with shield. <BR><BR><B>The Yale of Beaufort</B></I>, a silver goat with golden spots with divided white and blue shield bearing crowned portcullis<BR><BR><B>The Falcon of the Plantagenets</B></I>, silver with outspread wings, golden legs and beak, shield with livery colors of the House of York<BR><BR><B>The Black Bull of Clarence</B></I>, golden hoofs and horns holding shield of Royal arms as borne by English Sovereigns (1405-1603) <BR><BR><B>The Griffin of Edward III</B></I>, gold, bears shield of present royal livery colors, red and gold with Round Tower of Windsor Castle<BR><BR>Each with royal Minton stamp on base and name of figure, on white bases-6 in. high, in original fitted box stamped <I>The Queen's Beasts</B></I>, <I>Minton ltd.</B></I>,<I> </B></I>with royal warrant.<BR>The original purchase price for one figure (boxed) was 17 pounds 10 shillings or for a complete set of ten, 175 pounds, a considerable sum in 1955.<BR><BR><BR>Provenance:<BR>Purchased from Hope & Glory, London<BR><BR><BR><BR><b>Shipping:</b> Requires 3rd Party Shipping (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.heritageauctions.com/common/shipping.php">view shipping information</a>)
