A Sealing Voyage.... Letter, Boston, Au
A Sealing Voyage.... Letter, Boston, Aug. 7, 1800, 3 pp., from John Cort, with integral address-leaf, to Capt. Daniel Pryor, N.H. The ink "10" charge has been crossed out and "Free" added. The writer is projecting plans for a sealing voyage. "...Pleased that there are men who would like a sealing voyage...and that they are calculating the results of one...The plan is to send 50 men...strong risk...if they get no skins they will have no compensation and if they do get skins, it will be easy to calculate (to be paid in Boston)." The writer enumerates stores that they would have to take. "...I would not risk the ship without great hope of succeeding...It is conjectured the ship will carry 120 thousand skins...and can circumnavigate the globe...." Brown ink legible and dark. Original light folds, a small hole affecting one word present where address-leaf was opened. Filled with sailing ship content. Unusual and otherwise fine.
