A classic form likely produced in Damascus, with iron pommel and crossguard inlaid with silver, the horn grips set with brass studs and pellets. The fine Persian heirloom blade forged of actively-patterned black wootz in a Ladder Pattern, and engraved at the right forte with a cartouche containing the name and title of Shah Abbas of Iran, ABBAS SHAH BANDE-YE VILAYET (r. 1588-1629.) In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with fine wire seam and steel mounts inlaid with silver en suite with the hilt. Retains its rare woven and embroidered suspension system. Mid 19th century. Overall length 90.5 cm.
