Of shell type, the guard formed of two large, domed oval plates, the obverse chiseled with a lion amongst foliage and a pair of wild boars, the panels connected by loops which connect the guard, knucklebow and quillons, both with en suite bead terminals. Wooden grip with spirally-twisted wire wrap terminating in a pommel of flattened spherical form. The long, double-edged blade with a narrow central fuller running to the tip, struck at the forte, ESPADERO DEL REY (SWORDMAKER TO THE KING) with a cluster of stars at either end. First half of the 17th century. Gripwrap replaced, blade with pitting and age darkening, tip rounded, stable crack to upper quillon. Overall length 110 cm.
