A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE "6949". As carried by the GWR '4900 Hall' Class 4-6-0 built at Swindon in December 1942 under Lot 340 at a cost of £5,600 plus another £1,408 for the 4000 gallons Collett tender. She was named "HABERFIELD HALL" on 21st May 1947.Initially allocated to Landore, she moved to Neyland in 1943; Laira in 1947; Stafford Road in 1954; Banbury in 1958 and finally Shrewsbury in 1960. She had been altered to oil-burning on 2nd May 1947 and temporarily renumbered 3955, but reverted to coal on 5th April 1949. She was damaged beyond repair in an accident at Baschurch (between Shrewsbury and Gobowen) on 13th February 1961 and cut up at Swindon by 17th June 1961. She had run 687,396 miles in service. The plate is face-repainted only. A copy of a magazine report on the accident is included in the Lot. Haberfield Hall is at Pill, 3 miles N.W. of Bristol.
