A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE “63587”. As carried by the ex GCR 8K Class 2-8-0, GCR 1240, built by the North British Locomotive’s Hyde Park Works as Works No. 19896 in December 1912. A Robinson “Tiny” it was used exclusively on freight workings. It became LNER 6240 Class 04/1 from April 1926; 3587 from December 1946; BR 63587 from July 1948. Latterly a Frodingham, Staveley GC, and Colwick engine it was withdrawn in September 1962 and cut up at Doncaster in October 1963. The plate is face-repainted only with the Class codes and pattern number clear on the back.
