A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE “42126”. As carried by the (LMS) Class 4P (later Class 4) 2-6-4T built at Derby in 1949 under Lot 202. A Fairburn design first introduced in 1945 used mainly for secondary workings. It became BR 42126, was a longtime Motherwell engine until a move to Carstairs in May 1964, and was withdrawn from there in October to be cut up by the Motherwell Machinery and Scrap Co of Wishaw in February 1965. The plate is face-repainted only.
