A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE "31584". As carried by the ex SE & CR Class C 0-6-0, SECR 584, built at Ashford in June 1903. Designed by Wainwright, the C Class were the largest 0-6-0's in use on the Southern Region. They were used for freight work. It became SR A584, then SR 1584, and finally BR 31584. A longtime Stewarts Lane engine, final withdrawal came in February 1962 and it was scrapped in Ashford Works in March. The plate is in totally ex-loco condition and accompanied by the original BR despatch note dated August 1962.
