A SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE "31323". As carried by the ex SECR 0-6-0T 323 built at Ashford in July 1910. It became SR A323, then SR 1323, then BR 31323. The P Class 0-6-0 tanks, of which only 8 were built to Wainwright's design, were diminutive locos for push/pull duties later relegated to shunting. They were so economical and popular that no less than 4 survive, including this one which, when it was withdrawn in June 1960 after time shedded at Dover and Folkestone, went to the Bluebell Railway where it was renumbered 323 and named "BLUEBELL". The plate is face-repainted only, and has the usual "BR (S)E " triangle and "A" casting (Ashford) on the ex-loco back. It is accompanied by its original BR receipt for 11/6 dated 1961.
