<B>A SIOUX QUILLED PIPE STEM WITH CATLINITE PIPE BOWL<BR></B></I><BR>c. 1890<BR> <BR>composed of an ash wood stem, one end wrapped with dyed porcupine quillwork, fitted into a T-shaped pipe bowl <BR><I><BR>Lengths: stem, 18 inches; bowl, 6 ¼ inches<BR></B></I> <B>Condition Report:</B> In overall good condition. Ash wood stem with two areas of lighter coloration, including an approx. 1-1/4” x 1-3/4” section near mouth end, possibly due to removal of mallard duck feather panels. Traces of red pigment near frayed red silk ribbon decoration. Small, shallow wood scratches through out. Purple ribbon frayed. Porcupine quilling nearly intact, some small losses, but faded with some slight abrasion. Pipe: body has small surface scratches, and a chip at prow end approx. 3/8” x 3/8”, as well as an approx. 1/4" x 1/4" cavity along bottom of prow. There is also an approx. 1/8” x 1/8” chip at shank end. Bowl has an approx. 3/8” x 5/8” chip near circular outside rim and top is blackened.
