<B>A SIOUX QUILLED AND BEADED HIDE KNIFE SHEATH<BR></B></I><BR>c. 1885<BR> <BR>decorated on the front with natural and dyed porcupine quills, the perimeter with small geometric elements in classic shades of glass seed beads, trimmed with metal cones inserted with red-dyed horsehair, rawhide liner<BR><BR>Exhibited: <BR>The Art Institute of Chicago<BR><I><BR>Length: 9 inches excluding attachments<BR></B></I><BR><BR><BR><BR><BR><BR><BR> <B>Condition Report:</B> In overall good to very good condition. Hide with usual wear including light soiling. Back has approx. 1” x 1-1/8” darker, defined area. Porcupine quilling with minor losses and some abrasion, but colors fairly bright. Small hole near center of sheath piercing back. Beading almost intact, with very small loss around rim of opening. Red horsehair tassels extant.
