<B>A SIOUX PICTORIAL QUILLED HIDE TOBACCO BAG<BR></B></I><BR>c. 1880<BR> <BR>one side decorated with a geometric pattern in dyed porcupine quills, the other side with a pair of butterflies and a pair of elk centering a buffalo against a hide ground, a panel of rawhide slats recycled from a painted parfleche case and wrapped with porcupine quills suspended below, hide fringe along the bottom<BR><I><BR>Length: 30 inches<BR></B></I><BR><BR> <B>Condition Report:</B> In overall fair to good condition. Hide with usual wear, including some moderate soiling and brown spotting and small holes overall. Appears to have (native?) repair to various tears. Buffalo side: two large golden brown stains of approx. 1-3/8” x 1-5/8” and 2-5/8” x 1-1/8” in top section, various dark brown spotting and some traces of yellow pigment. End of two porcupine-quilled rawhide slats unattached to bag. Quilling has losses, fading, and abrasion.
