<B>A SIOUX BEADED HIDE KNIFE SHEATH<BR></B></I><BR>c. 1890<BR> <BR>decorated on the front with geometric motifs, sinew sewn and lane-stitched in various shades of glass seed beads, trimmed with metal cones, buffalo rawhide liner; with wood-handled knife enclosed<BR><BR>Exhibited:<BR>The Art Institute of Chicago<BR><I><BR>Length: 10 ½ inches, excluding tassel<BR></B></I><BR><BR>Exhibited: The Art Institute of Chicago<BR><BR> <B>Condition Report:</B> In overall good to very good condition. Hide with moderate wear, including moderate soiling. There is a small inscription of “217/A-AC” written on the back in black ink. Back also has an approx. 2-1/2” green pigment mark. Beadwork bright, clean, with only an approx. 1/2" x 3/4" loss. Loss of approx. six metal tipped rawhide fringes. Tassel supple. Knife’s wood handle has golden patina and black-ink inscription of “217-AC” on side.
