A SCARCE WW1 RUSSIAN NAVAL OFFICER'S DIRK SUBMARINE SERVICE
A Russian Imperial Fleet officer's dirk. Blade made of steel, hilt mounts - brass. Engraving with a submarine's name "OKUN" (Окунь), the owner's initials (?), and the date "1915" on the guard. No scabbard. Some tear and wear. The hilt is tight.
Footnote:
The destroyer was laid down in 1904, a little later the ship was given the name "Okun", and it was added to the Baltic Fleet. The launching took place in the autumn of 1904, at the same time alterations were made - the installation of a middle cabin and an increase in horizontal rudders. In 1906 the Okun was reclassified as a submarine and in 1908 it finally entered service and was enrolled in the Diving Training Unit stationed in Libava.
The submarine was engaged in a few Baltic Sea battles against German cruisers during World War I.
Please note the two images of the ship and its crew are not a part of this lot. The images are provided as a point of reference only.
