A SCARCE DIVISION ONE BLACK GLASS PICTORIAL BUTTON
1 Small 19th century hand painted sheet overlay example. Here is a wonderful and scarce black glass button from the 19th century. The black glass base is hand painted in this case a group of Pomegranate fruit in an olive colored paint which is overlayed with a clear glass shield cemented to the black glass base and undetectable to the naked eye. The clear overlay shield is there to protect the hand painted surface of the black glass and therefore preserve , as can be seen in the photo, the crisp design of the Pomegranate fruit and leaves. These examples are quite sought after and do not come up often for sale. This is a beautiful example of this scarce technique, and in a rare size as we seldom see small examples especially with such great detail.
