A Roman ceramic beaker, c. 4th Century AD, of elongated form with raised base and tall, the slip-glaze a grey-black color and the side of the neck with an incised bird, with graffito before, personalized by a prior owner? A nice example of a Roman drinking vessel which was produced in the Northern European provinces, with manufacturing centers well known in the Rhine valley and southern Britain. H: 6 1/5 in (15.8cm). Ex South German private collection of an artist and art collector, purchased between 1960 to 1980.
