Rome, ca. 1st-3rd century AD. Solid bronze decorated pin with nice green patina. Hairpins made of bronze, carved wood, etc. were used in ancient times for securing decorated hairstyles. Such hairpins suggest, as graves show, that many were luxury objects among the Egyptians and later Greeks, Etruscans, and Romans. Pin itself measures 2-1/8"L, intact. Custom lucite mount.

Provenance: Ex-private G. Bingham Collection, Utah.
