Lenormant, François. MONNAIES ROYALES DE LA LYDIE. Paris, 1876. Tall 8vo, contemporary brown pebbled cloth, gilt. 43, (1) pages; frontispiece plate engraved by Dardel illustrating both sides of 14 archaic coins of Lydia. Some foxing throughout; else near fine. Rare: the first copy we have handled in decades. Babelon: "Franois Lenormant (1837-1883), had a prolific if short career, and wrote some papers on ancient numismatics; specifically on the coins of Roman Macedonia (1852), the silver coins of the Ptolemies (1855), and the royal coins of Lydia (1874). However, he is best remembered for his masterly work La monnaie dans l'antiquité (3 vols., 1878-1879), sadly never completed" (147).
