A 64mm, 104 gram medal in .999 Silver, produced in 1945 as a tribute to Winston Churchill, and apparantly issued to commemorate his visit to Canada on or about the same date. Obverse: Bust of Churchill to left, in great-coat, legend: RT. HON WINSTON CHURCHILL, truncation: S. HAYMAN (incuse). Obverse: large "V for Victory" sign, lighted torch and Canadian arms shield superimposed, legend: CANADA COME, THEN, LET US TO OUR TASK". The engraver, Stanley Hayman, studied at the Ontario College of Art and worked for the Royal Mint for three years, before returning to Canada and settling in Peterborough. According to the authors of "The Medallic Portraits of Sir Winston Churchill" (Spink & Son, 1972), this issue is only known due to a single bronze example presented to U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt before his death in 1945. To our knowledge, this is therefore the first and only example known in Silver, and must be considered of the greatest rarity. AU, with hairlined fields from earlier buffings
