A RUSSIAN SILVERED BRONZE WATER CARRIER PEASANT SCULPTURE, CA. 1900
A Russian silvered bronze sculpture depicting a water carrier (vodonos), circa 1880–1910, mounted on a carved lapis lazuli base (deep blue, veined indicative of a luxury object). The buckets, yoke, and details are finely rendered, showing chased decoration resembling traditional Russian woodcarving motifs. The water carrier wears a Russian folk tunic and peaked cap, with a traditional water yoke (коромысло). This figure represents a common urban tradesman or village porter, a romanticized subject in late Imperial decorative art.Such figures were popular among Fabergé-style silver miniatures, made for export and domestic collectors. Please make all inquiries before bidding. All lots are sold "as-is", refer to our T&C.Helios Auctions does not ship in-house.
