A Russian Easter porcelain made by the Imperial Porcelain Factory in the late 19th to early 20th century. The egg is made of glazed porcelain with hand-painted decoration. Of the traditional form, associated with Orthodox Easter gifts. The egg is decorated with lavender-pink lattice bands and delicate gold veining and enclosed floral motifs. The flowers resemble roses and daisies, popular themes in Russian decorative arts. The top is gilt, a typical finishing detail in luxury eggs, oftentimes found in Imperial pieces.Easter eggs were highly symbolic in the Russian Orthodox tradition, and porcelain versions were given as gifts, especially among the aristocracy.Factories like the Imperial Porcelain Factory (St. Petersburg) or Gardner produced similar eggs from simple ones for middle-class buyers to highly ornate ones for the nobility. The use of gold and floral garlands reflects late Victorian and Tsarist-era tastes, merging Rococo influences with Orthodox tradition.Russia, ca. 1900.Please make all inquiries before bidding. All lots are sold "as-is", refer to our T&C.Helios Auctions does not ship in-house.
