A RARE division one pearl pictorial button
1 Large 18th century silver overlayed pearl scene with a FOX. After a recent NON Lion and Unicorn button auction, this button showed up for us to sell from the original collection Bruce's grandmother, Viviane Beck Ertell (from the same set as the one sold in that other auction). In that recent auction that example (different scene same technique) sold for over $1800. Like the example that was auctioned in February, there is some silver loss to this example, but Bruce says he has never seen an example where there was not some loss to the silver. In this example the minor loss of silver does not at all detract from the overall scene and rarity of ther button. This detailed example shows a fox up on his hind legs and his paws on a water well, guess he was thirsty, huh. The silver in these examples from the 18th century are engraved and the thin layer of silver is overlayed onto the white chatoyant pearl. This is another fantastic example for 18th century craftsmanship and ingenuity and uncommon to find. This is a very cool pictorial too.
