A RARE division one oval copper button
1 Small 18th/19th C. transitional George Washington memorial. This is an extremely rare button. It was made somewhere between December 14th, 1799 (when GW passed away-Buried December 18th) and January of the year 1800 just after the passing of the Father of our Country George Washington. It is made in the same manner as the GW inaugural buttons as it is a copper button engraved like the inaugurals and in this case with a detailed memorial URN. The button can be found in the rare collection of Harold J. Cobb who amassed what was considered the largest and best collection of GW inaugural buttons. This button was made in round and oval and is way rarer than many of the GW inaugural examples as there were less of these memorial buttons made. This is a fantastic opportunity to own a real piece of American history that many button collectors do not even know existed. These have rarely come up for sale in the button world let alone the political world. Depending on the light its shown in it photographs copper color but in other light it photographs brass color, but the button is a copper button.
