An elaborately embellished example of characteristic form which likely originated in Bhuj, a city in the Kutch district of Gujerat. The robust, double-edged and recurved blade with pronounced central ridge. The mounts of heavily gilded copper finely engraved overall, the bolster in the form of a fully-modeled horse?s head with horsehair tassel, and a pommel in the form of a tiger?s head which unscrews to reveal a concealed dagger. With its velvet-covered wooden scabbard, likewise mounted in finely pierced, embossed and engraved gilt copper. First quarter of the 19th century. Light wear. Overall length 76.4 cm. and a choora dagger with characteristic hooked horn grips and engraved bolsters with straight, tapering blade. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard. Late 19th century.
