Likely made early in the Konbaung Dynasty (1752-1885 c.e.) The elephant grip superbly and atypically carved with dragons amongst foliage, probably a reference to the eponymous founder of the Burmese kingdom, Pyusawhti, who by tradition was descended from a solar spirit and a dragon princess. The long, segmented silver ferrule with bands of filigree, the robust, lightly curved, single-edged blade expanding continuously toward the radiused tip, grooved and struck for its entire length with a series of meandering marks. In its wooden scabbard with large silver bands, its later shoulder-sling intact.Late 18th-early 19th century.Minor damage to grip, lightly worn overall.Overall length 84.2 cm.
