A massive example, the solid silver hilt showing Epirus workmanship, engraved and nielloed overall with garlands and stands of arms on each side. The heavy heirloom double-edged Caucasian blade likely captured from the Ottomans, with central fuller and struck Arabic maker’s mark to either side. In its leather-covered scabbard with applied silver scallop shells, a symbol of baptism in the Greek Orthodox Church. Beginning of the 19th century. Light wear. Overall length 66.2 cm.
