A RARE DIVISION ONE UNDER GLASS TECHNIQUE BUTTON
1 Large Medium 18th century copper and Sulphide button. This is a very rare example of 18th century pictorial glass set in copper with an engraved border. Rare in size medium and rare in depiction. The button is a glass center with a sulphide work in the glass, notice the profile head looking at another profile head, very unusual indeed, The sulphide is set over a sky blue background, a recognizable color artists used in the 18th century. The copper is engraved and silvered and in fine condition. Harry Case of Missouri was one of the button worlds true aficionados on 18th century coppers and was said to have the best collection in the country and noted that this example was one of a very rare group ever found in 18th century coppers.
