Very seldom found on the market, the walrus grips with gilded silver tangband and ferrule embellished with chiseled vines, the flared pommel enclosed in gilded silver with roped borders and set with numerous large colored stones, including rubies, emeralds and turquoises as is characteristic for the type. The broad, double-edged blade with tapered tip, fullered on each side and wrought of wootz steel. The wood-lined scabbard worked entirely in embossed, engraved and gilded silver in typical Bukharan floral motifs, the locket finely inlaid with turquoise on each side. First half of the 19th century. The presentation of these daggers was a privilege reserved to the Amir of Bukhara himself. To be seen with such a weapon in one's belt was a clear mark of favor and accomplishment, and thus generally identified ministers and heroes. Overall length 39.9 cm.
