A RARE AND UNUSUAL GEORGE I WALNUT BUREAU-BOOKCASE FITTED WITH A CHRISTOPHER PINCHBECK AUTOMATON MUSICAL CLOCK MOVEMENT Ca. 1720 The upper portion with broken pediment and pierced brass fretwork incorporating musical trophies amongst exotic birds and foliage, opening to reveal a massive four- pillar movement, the backplates 31 1/2 inches wide, the painted dial signed "CHRISTOPHER PINCHBECK, LONDON," the brass chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals, pendulum and days of the month apertures, and three winding aperatures. Subsidiary dials for seconds and thirteen airs, painted with a lady and a gallant in the arch, the lady playing the harp and the gentleman singing from a music sheet. Shown seated within a music room, cherubs and scrolling foliage below. With a glazed and arched door above a pair of beveled plate glass doors opening to reveal a compartment, the bells and drum cylinder now lacking. With a long drawer below, the fall front opening to reveal drawers and pigeonholes above two long drawers on cabriole legs. H: 91 1/2, W: 36, D: 33 1/2 in. The musical elements of this clock are now missing, but complete with pendulum and key. - $40,000-60,000
