A. Postumius A.f. Sp.
A. Postumius A.f. Sp.<p>n. Albinus, moneyer. 81 B.C. AR serrated denarius. Veiled head right of Hispania/Togate figure standing left between Roman eagle and fasces. Cr. 372/2, Syd. 746, Postumia 8. EF and nicely toned, old cut on obverse neck. It was not unusual for Roman citizens to have three or four names, in part to tell one person from another, in part to honor illustrious ancestors. Since the letter "f" stands for filius or son, "n" for nepos, or grandson, this moneyer's name in full was Aulus (the praenomen) - Postumius (the nomen) - son of Aulus - grandson of Spurius - Albinus (the cognomen). Sometimes there was a fourth name which would end -inus or -anus called the agnomen. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
