A Peckett locomotive brass CABSIDE NUMBERPLATE "No. 9". As carried by the Peckett Type B1 0-6-0ST with outside cylinders, P 751 that emerged from Works on 18th November 1898. It went new to W. Hill & Co. (Portland) Contractors Ltd for use on the construction of Portland Harbour. It was their No. 9. It later went to J. Pugsley, Contractors, then in 1911 to Ebbw Vale Steel Iron & Coal Co. Ltd. Finedon Quarries. About 1921 it went to E.V.S.I. & C Co. Ironworks at Ebbw Vale; about 1925 to Richard Thomas & Baldwins Ltd. Irthlingborough Mines; then to R T & B's Hunsbury Hill Furnaces, and was finally scrapped in August 1957. It retained this cabside numberplate throughout its life. Rectangular cast brass, 24 1/4"x9 3/4", with serif letters and numbers, in fine original condition.
