Amazing examples! From ancient Rome, ca. 200 - 300 AD. Solid bronze fittings, in the form of a sitting woman with one raised arm to the side of her head, possibly her hair; the other hand resting on the bench. Once part of a larger finial, adorning the end of a chariot pole as a cap. After the pole was inserted into the rectangular extension, the bronze was secured by a pin which was pushed through the holes in the extension and a corresponding hole in the pole. 5"H x 2 3/4"W, both intact/excellent. Beautiful, original patina. Custom museum-quality stands.

Provenance: Ex-private New York Collection.
