A rare early Qajar-era example, the polished antler grips of characteristic karabela form. The guard with rolled quillons and dragonhead terminals, with elaborate inlaid silver vinework, the tangband inlaid en suite. The long, lightly-curved blade single-edged, with complex fullering, forged of superior Persian black wootz steel, with a pair of chiseled cartouches at the right forte, the upper inscribed, O ARBITER OF NEEDS! The lower with the signature, ASSAD ALLAH. Beginning of the 19th century. Wear to inlay, minor areas of pitting.
